Lenten reflection…

Lent is such a sacred time for those who follow Jesus.  For me, it is always a time of deep reflection.  During Holy Week I find myself thinking about Jesus’s movements and the movements of those close to him, in particular the Marys.  So much has been made of Peter’s denial of Jesus while the fidelity of the women in his life has been largely ignored by our culture.  The women stayed with him.  Women are typically gentle souls.  We think of Martha cooking, Mary sitting at Jesus’s feet, and Mary anointing his feet.  Women will most often choose compassion and yet when needed, women are fierce, strong, and unshakeable.  The women who loved Jesus walked the way of sorrow with him and stayed with him at the cross until his body was released from the horrors of the crucifixion. They were the first to show up at his tomb to tend to his body and in being there were the first to witness his resurrection. This Lent I celebrate the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the women who loved him.

This comes with love on a rainy morning in the middle of Texas,

Mary Ann
